Why wear a sauna hat?
Heat rises. When you're in the sauna, the temperature is highest right by your head and ears, and that's often what forces you out before your body is ready. A sauna hat shields your head from the intense heat and evens out the temperature so you can stay longer and get the full benefit of the sauna experience.
It also protects your hair from drying out. Both regular and colored hair can be damaged by repeated exposure to high temperatures, and a sauna hat retains the hair's natural moisture.
One important detail: always wear the hat dry. A wet hat loses its insulating ability and causes discomfort instead of comfort.
Sauna hat for winter bathing
For winter bathers, the sauna hat is also practical outside the sauna. It helps with the transition between the hot and cold water of the sauna and keeps your head warm during the break outside. Many winter bathers use their sauna hat as a regular part of their whole routine.
Why wool and felt are the best materials
Wool and felt are the most popular materials for sauna hats, and for good reason. Wool has natural thermoregulatory properties and creates an insulating air pocket between the hat and your head. It's breathable and holds its shape even in the humid sauna atmosphere. Cotton and synthetic materials get soaked quickly and lose their ability to insulate.
Our sauna hats are made of 100% wool felt and are best washed gently by hand or on the machine wool program.
Classic sauna hat or bully hat?
The traditional sauna hat is known from Finnish and Russian sauna cultures and has a characteristic cone shape that lifts heat away from the head. The bully hat is a more modern version with the same function and a contemporary look.
The classic sauna hat is available in black, green and orange. The bully hat is available in gray.
